Recent reminder from Jeff Kendrick of Vancouver Island Brewery:

Please note: this is the first EVER cask tapped at Christies! If this goes well, they will consider having more casks. We need YOUR help! See you there!

I agree with Dan Lett. I have always felt that BCLDB is a bureaucratic monster,
has far too much control over liquor matters, and is disinterested in how the public is served. For instance what is wrong with selling alcohol in grocery stores ? Like most
other western countries .
Go for it Dan , Lets shake things up.

One of the purposes of CAMRA BC is to support craft brewers at the local level and to ensure our membership is aware of who in their area is dedicated to the making of real ales. There is no expectation on our part for a return, in the form of a club discount or other consideration from the pubs and brewers of BC.

Occasionally the brewers show their appreciation for our efforts by hosting tours or tastings at club meetings during the year. Moon Under Water invited CAMRA Victoria in for sneak peak a week before the official opening, generously serving complimentary beverages and appies. As I have said, however, there is never an expectation of discounts or handouts on the part of CAMRA.

Also, CAMRA is first and foremost a watchdog on behalf of the consumer; we cannot place ourselves in a position of obligation to any brewer. If a brewer does not maintain the standards expected of a true craftsman, if he produces a beer with artificial constituents or otherwise adulterates the beverage, CAMRA must be free to level criticism without any constraint.

Moon Under Water is working hard to establish itself in a highly competitive region. Victoria is known for the quality of it's brewpubs and the craft beers being produced here: Moon Under Water has set high standards in order to carve a place in the region. With full flavoured beers at a low alcohol volume and very reasonable prices, they deserve full credit for the hard work they put into their operation.

If we can spread the word about the good work they are doing, then that is its own reward.

Re: Moon under water; Great food, lovely ales - but I was disappointed there was no CAMRA discount on anything. I would not have known about this pub were it not for the CAMRA website.
