2012 Competition

Late breaking news!

Phillips Brewing here in Victoria, will be evaluating each category’s first place beer and be brewing the best one in a limited release 650ml bottle for BC Craft Beer Month (October). The winning brewer will be invited to the brewery to brew the batch with the Phillips team (no travel or accommodation costs will be covered if someone is travelling from outside of Victoria). The brew session will take place in August-September (in order to have it ready to drink in October).

If your beer wins its category, you’ll be contacted by the competition coordinator and invited to submit another bottle for evaluation by the Phillips team.

Phillips Brewing and Matt himself have been very supportive of homebrewers and craft beer afficionados (such as CAMRA) in Victoria. We sincerely thank him and his generous team for this opportunity for homebrewers to live the life of a craft brewer for a day.

Entry Rules

- All entrants must be 19 years of age or older.

- All entries must register and pay entry fees online between May 1 and 18.  No cash or cheques will be accepted.  No late entries will be accepted.  No refunds will be provided for late or missing entries. Register your entries now.

- Entries will be judged against the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) style guidelines.

- We are accepting home-brewed entries for categories 1-23 of the BJCP guidelines.

- We are also accepting all Brewed-on-Premises (i.e., U-Brew) entries into another single special category (for all styles).

- Each brewer (or team) may enter at most one entry per BJCP sub-category (e.g., a brewer may enter once in sub-category 2-A German Pilsner and once in sub-category 2-B Bohemian Pilsener, but may not submit two entries in 2-A German Pilsner).

- Depending on the number of entries in each BJCP category, some categories may be combined with others for judging and prizes.

- First-, second- and third-place ribbons will be awarded for each of the [combined] BJCP categories
