May CAMRA Victoria event news

Reminder…..

Hey CAMRA Members and Craft Beer Enthusiasts,

Just a followup to the last week’s email regarding the VIB event next Tuesday. We’ve unfortunately been given word that, due to the new staffing in place at the brewery we will be unable to tour the new facility. Our gathering will be solely in the retail store portion, unless anything changes in the coming days. As well, we only have the location available from 6pm-7:30pm, so the earlier you can show up the better. We will still have tasters of their product available to try, and we do hope to have someone from VIB in attendance to answer questions and give us a lowdown on the changes they undertook. It should still be a good time, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Secondly, with Hopoxia coming up on June 10th, Phillips is on the lookout for volunteers to help with the running of the event. As some of our CAMRA Victoria exec are already committed to helping out, we’re looking for at least 5 more members interested in volunteering their time. Phillips has stated that you can work a 2.5hr shift in exchange of enjoying 2 hours of the festival along with 5 complimentary drink tickets. All in all a pretty fair deal! If you’re interested please email communications@camra.ca and we will pass along your info to the fine folks at Phillips! We’re also looking for at least 2 more members to help out at the CAMRA Victoria booth as well, so please email if you are interested.

Thirdly, GCBF will be releasing their volunteer signup soon for the event, which runs September 8th & 9th this year. As always it’s the volunteers who are the backbone of the festival, and as such are invaluble. Particular positions needed every year are booth stewards, as they are usually the toughest to obtain. SIR (Serving It Right,) or SES (Special Event Server,) are needed to apply for these positions, so if you’d like to work at a brewery booth but don’t have either certificate yet, just go to  go2HR.ca/training/special-event

The SES certificate only costs $20 and is good for 5 years, and is transferable to any and all festivals with a focus on serving alcohol, (VBW for example.) Other positions are also needed, so once the volunteer page is up and running we will pass along the info.

Lastly, we have tentatively committed to June 27th in the penthouse at Swan’s for our ‘Bring a New Member Night.’ Details are still being ironed out, so please stay tuned.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for the May newsletter, (should be out by next weekend,) for more info regarding upcoming events and other fascinating articles.

Hope to See You All There.
